Now for my own stuff. Basically, working with Vivian and Jocie, on Indonesia.

Culture:

=> Music

With so many islands, each with its own culture, Indonesia has many different forms of music.

Gamelan! It's a sort of musical ensemble, made up of many instruments like metallophones, xylophones, gongs, drums, etc. The word "gamelan" comes from the Javanese word "gamel" meaning to strike/hammer, and "an" is used as suffix to make the root a collective noun. There are many varieties of gamelan, like Balinese gamelan, Javanese gamelan, Malay gamelan, and in each category, there are more varieties.

The gamelan usually accompanies a dance performance, or even wayang kulit. Not going to go TOO in depth in to stuff though.

Angklung! Again...anyway, it originated from Bandung, Indonesia. For stuff on angklung, refer to my earlier post on it.

Kulintang! Part of RGAK. Eh. We call the "wooden xylophone thing" a "kulintang". But a "kulintang" is actually made up of GONGS instead of wood. It's been used in many parts of SEA, not just Indonesia though. Part of the gamelan, if I'm not wrong.

I shall stop the music part here.
